Dance United

Last year Wicomico County Public Schools raised over $60,000 during their annual United Way Campaign making them number 4 on our top 50 list of organizations and number 2 with 40% participation in companies with over 500 employee’s category.

This year, they are getting students involved.  With your help and support Wicomico Public Schools are hosting the first ever Dance United Fundraiser. Similar to “Jump Rope for Heart,” students will accept donations toward a day of dance in their Physical Education classes. Recent studies show regularly scheduled movement breaks throughout the day and movement used within and between lessons, results in better behaved, more engaged students, who can more easily focus on and retain what they are supposed to be learning. In addition, movement benefits their understanding of difficult concepts, and their lifelong health and well-being. Movement helps foster inclusive environments for all children and makes children want to come to school every day.

So when is this happening? November 2017.  American Education Week provides a great platform for parents and families to see students participating. Each school will determine the best timeline for their Dance United event. United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore will provide the donation packets to all of the schools. Every child that raises at least $5, will receive a LIVE UNITED t-shirt. For every $25 raised, students will receive a $5 i-tunes gift card. So if a student raises $100, he or she will receive a t-shirt and a $20 i-tunes gift card. We will also provide one student, a prize for most money raised overall. The top school will choose between an assembly, a field trip or materials for instruction. (Valued at $1000.) Winner decides.

With your help, Wicomco County Public Schools will reach their goal!
